House rules

At Let's Talk AI people meet face to face and talk with each other. Everything is built for conversation.

The rules apply at the monthly mixer and at every other Let's Talk AI event, and in the spaces around them: the WhatsApp community, the LinkedIn page, and direct messages between people who met through us.

Who it's for

Anyone who works with AI or wants to: engineers, founders, managers, consultants, students and people using AI for the first time. Come wherever you are. Expats are very welcome, and conversations happen in English too.

Investors, recruiters, consultants, people with something to sell and people looking for a job are all welcome. The rules below are about how we treat each other.

Four things we ask of everyone

We read them aloud at the start of every evening.

  • Say who you are, plainly. Your name, what you do, what you're working on or stuck on. What you did says more than any title.
  • Share what actually happened. What worked, what you learned, what you'd do differently. Unfinished work belongs here too: it's usually the most useful part.
  • Listen as much as you talk. Leave room for the quieter people and the first-timers.
  • Debate ideas, respect people. Different views are welcome. We talk about ideas, with respect for every person.

Selling and jobs

At Let's Talk AI people come to hear how AI is really going for others. Good business usually grows out of good conversations, over time, so start with a conversation.

  • Talk about what you do, as among colleagues. It's natural to say what you're working on and what your company does. If the other person is curious, they'll ask more. Otherwise, move on to another topic.
  • Follow the other person's lead. When the conversation moves on, move on with it, at the event and in messages afterwards. Write to someone once you've agreed to stay in touch.
  • AI jobs are welcome. You can come to the meetup looking for a job or looking to hire, as long as the role is AI related. Ask openly and let the other person choose. For posts, the WhatsApp community has a jobs group: share open roles there, or say you're looking.
  • Once is enough. Launched something others could use? Tell the discussion group, once, and every message gets read. We delete repeats, to keep room for conversation.

How we look after each other

  • Respect for every person. Everyone feels safe here: in words, in gestures, in messages and in photos. The other person's answer is respected the first time, and photos of someone are taken and shared only with their consent.
  • Connect one person at a time. The attendee list stays with us. Add someone to your newsletter or CRM only with their OK.
  • What's said in the room stays in the room. Use freely what you learned. When you want to quote someone publicly, ask them first.
  • We record only with everyone's OK. That includes audio, video and AI note-takers. Ask the people around you and an organizer first. When we take photos or film, we say so at the door.

Money and partners

  • The monthly mixer is free and stays free. Any other format that costs money says so, with the price, from the first announcement.
  • Partners support the evening. A partner may host the evening or cover food and drinks, and we thank them by name. The microphone, the attendee list, the numbers on who came and the shape of the evening stay with the community.
  • Organizers declare their interests. Anyone with a personal interest in a decision (a partner, a venue) says so and steps out of that decision.

Your data

You sign up on Luma or Meetup. We use your sign-up only to write to you about the edition you signed up for and, if you chose so, the next ones. You can opt out at any time.

Your details stay with us, and how many people come stays between us too.

Photos and video

At some editions we take photos and a little video, and we say so at the door and at the start. Rather stay out of the photos? Tell us at the door.

Want us to take down a published photo you're in? Write to contact@lets-talk-ai.ro and we'll remove it within 30 days at most, from the site and from everywhere we posted it.

We name people on the site only with their written OK.

Practical

  • Sign up yourself. Friends are welcome. Ask them to sign up too, because the venue's capacity is limited.
  • The waitlist goes in order. When an event is full, we write to you as soon as a place frees up. Smaller formats, like dinners and workshops, have only a few places.

If you need us

Tell any organizer on the spot, or write to contact@lets-talk-ai.ro. We take every message seriously and reply discreetly. Depending on what happened, we talk to the person, ask them to leave, or ask them to sit out future editions. Before that, we hear their side too. The organizers decide.
